5 Reasons Atlanta is the LA of the East Coast

The long-standing idea we have had of Los Angeles is that no matter what, you’re going to have options. A place where there is so much to enjoy for a weekend with your friends. If you weren’t aware, the east coast has a LA vibe city as well. You may be looking for a new destination for your summer road trip. Perhaps, you’re interested in a new place to call home. We have some insight into Atlanta’s uniqueness.

Educational Fun

Museums and attractions are some of our favorite details to look into when you’re browsing “things to do” in any location. The east coast happens to, of course, be the birthplace of the United States. It’s also the eighth-largest metropolitan area in the U.S. Many people call this place home and it happens to be home to some important figures and movements.

Stop at the Atlanta History Center to learn about the South’s torrid past with human rights. There is the history of the Cherokee who roamed those hills and valleys. The history of the slave trade here during early colonization is no mystery to most. General Sherman commanded his armies to burn the town after the Confederate forces retreated from Atlanta during the Civil War. It remains to be the largest destruction of civil land through war.

The National Center for Civil and Human Rights is a huge complex dedicated to memorializing and reverberating the true injustices races and creeds struggle with from across the world. Martin Luther King Jr. was born and raised in Atlanta. He was a strong figure that pushed progress on civil liberties in our country. Check out the Fernbeck Museum of Natural History, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park, or the Georgia Aquarium for even more education on what makes Atlanta amazing.

Food Options

If you weren’t aware, Atlanta is home to the largest drive-in restaurant. The Varsity is the name of this fabulous park-and-eat hangout. You park your car, someone comes out to you on rollerskates, and they take your food order.  Then, they roll their way back out to you, food in hand, when your order is complete. We felt the need to explain this because it’s not only awesome, it isn’t a common sight these days. In addition, there is now an array of high-end chefs operating out of Atlanta.

Home to some of the best southern food that America has to offer, you can stop anywhere and find one of several Atlanta restaurant districts. Check out Mary Mac’s Tea Room or Twisted Soul Cookhouse & Pours for some traditional pork chops, sweet potatoes, or collards.

Outdoor Activities

The southern states tend to be a bit warmer. This isn’t news to any resident of the U.S. And when your city has awesome weather, everyone gets the urge to soak up the great outdoors. Atlanta’s temperatures sit in the mid to late 80s daily. Make the most of the day and visit the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

The Garden is home to 30 acres of plant collection. It was created with the main goal of education and conservation of native and non-native plants. Atlanta’s climate is perfect for species of plants that need specific weather to prevent their extinction.

If you’re looking for something with a bit more thrill, take a trip to Centennial Olympic Park. There are shops, restaurants, and rides. Even if you aren’t looking to spend your time that way, it is known as a central location that leads to other Atlanta attractions. If you’re attending a particular event, this can lead you to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Not Boring Attractions

We love a city that offers unique attractions or exhibits. Art is a vital part of Atlanta culture. Tiny Doors ATL isn’t a door company that can help you renovate your new home. We encourage you to look into Atlanta houses for sale, but Tiny Doors ATL is a community art project in the city. Tiny doors are exactly how it sounds. Tiny doors are all over the city! This is giving us fourth-grade scavenger hunt vibes. Some of the doors are just drawings, others are more intricate. This is mostly about the grassroots love more than anything though.

The Center for Puppetry Arts is in Atlanta as well. This may sound like something out of a nightmare for some, but it’s a central location for fans and masters of puppet art. It is the largest concentrated art collection of puppets in the whole world. If puppets aren’t what you fancy, check out the World of Coca-Cola. Did you know that Coca-Cola was founded in Atlanta? There are vintage products and memorabilia, interactive drink making, and a 3D theater at this cool attraction.

A Great Skyline

Another comparison between LA and Atlanta, there is a central city with amazing skyscrapers. If a city offers nothing else, don’t you think it should be at least nice to look at? Atlanta’s cityscape is perfect. There aren’t many green spaces here, but there is Piedmont Park. The view in the fall from the park with the city skyline in the background is something you must see in person! There are other beautiful monuments to visit when in Atlanta, but we’ll leave it up to you to discover on your own.
