Everyone goes through that point in their life where they try to pick up a new language. Surprisingly, this happens way too often in India. Besides the general differences in how institutions operate, such as feature differences in LMS portals, fees management software, and admission procedures, there is a distinction in the mediums of the school. Generally, there are two broad school mediums, English and Hindi. Because Hindi is the national language of India this is found all over the country. The third type is the regional or local language of a state which is picked up by state boards. This could be anything, Assamese, Marathi, Gujarati Bengali, etc.
Yet, in all these words there is an option to learn a second language as per the choice of a student. Most students like to pick English as a second language if their school is not an English medium by default. This is because an idea about the English language allows students to have better opportunities in life because modernization and globalization have changed the way institutions function and English is a widely accepted language, sometimes even more than Hindi. It is true for private institutions, the public schools are still known to adopt Hindi as their official mode of language and communication.
English is one of the easiest languages to learn because it has simple alphabets, with easy pronunciations. Students who learn it from a very young age become quite fluent in the language by the time they are in elementary grades. Yet, the question remains. what is the easiest way to do it? We look for the easiest way because sometimes students are learning this language only for convenience in a new job they are joining, or they are changing institutions that require a compulsion.
Using education technology
Technology has made almost everything very easy these days. Teachers can simply switch to making their students watch videos from more experienced professionals over the Internet for better referencing and learning capabilities. Learning the English language by using education technology is one of the easiest methods.
Unlike individuals who teach English alphabet writing skills and pronunciation skills but technology combines all of these three in proper courses distributed over time.
Advantages of technology
- Students can select from a range of courses to learn the English language, allowing personalization and spacing out the time gap or practice sessions.
- The online world has multiple resources that the technology connects to students. The diversity of these sources is useful for them to have a clear understanding of the language first and then master it.
- Unlike a teacher, technology does not miss or delay lessons. It also allows students to watch and re-watch video courses for the English language over and over again till they can master the skills.
- Using technology comes with little to no cost these days, where the only requirement is a compatible device such as a smartphone and an average speed of Internet connection. Going to a teacher, on the other hand, would require fees.
The role of educators
No matter how advanced our technology becomes, it cannot beat the quality of education provided by a personal guide. These professionals are trained to teach English pronunciation and communication skills specifically for the purpose that requires the student to learn the language.
For example, students preparing for office interviews and office environments would need to pick up on formal language which is not possible only from basic English learning with the help of editing. In this case, they can refer to technology to learn the basics and another personalized teacher if needed for an extra benefit for specific forms of learning.
Despite advancements in technology teachers remain the top choice for students when learning something because they have trusted them for years and rely on them for guaranteed results. We can say that a combination of technology and tutorial means from teachers is the best way to learn English.
Conclusion
Learning English can be fun and advantageous, opening a sea of opportunities for students. But we should always remember that English is a language and a medium of communication. It is not the same as the knowledge of a certain topic. One should not be too proud of knowing and using the language conveniently and should be proud of the quality of education received no matter which medium of school they receive it from.
